Alex,

Read the book and thought it was great. One little thing though - are you not a bit unfair to the Hungarians in your description of the Battle of Berne? All the articles I can find on the matter seem to suggest that the Brazlians were the main perpetrators of the violence. Also Ferenc Puskas was apparently assaulted with a bottle rather than the other way round. You end up concluding that the Brazilians were beaten by brave Uraguayans in '50 and violent Hungarians in '54. I've only heard the 'Mighty Magyars' described as being alongside Brazil '70 as the greatest international side of all time and Puskas by all accounts was a gentleman. They had gone 31 games unbeaten prior to the final and 'violence' was never put forward as an explanation for their brilliance elsewhere.

Don't mean to split hairs though as I found the book fascinating both in football and anthropolgical terms.

Cheers,
Alex
