Corinthians are the 2005 Brasileiro champions. Runners-up Internacional are continuing to protest that a couple of Corinthians' results should have been annulled due to match-fixing. However, it doesn't look as though they will get anywhere.
Goiás and Palmeiras finished in third and fourth positions respectively, and will join the top two in next year's prestigious Libertadores Cup, along with São Paulo, who qualify as the reigning champions of the competition.
Coritiba, Atlético-MG, Paysandu and Brasiliense all waved goodbye to top flight football, as Serie A welcomes back Grêmio and Santa Cruz - who achieved promotion from Serie B - for the 2006 season.

Brazilian championship background information...
There are three divisions in the league, the Serie A and Serie B - which have made up of 20 teams each - and the Serie C.
The Serie A runs from 16 April to 3 December. The Serie B from 15 April to 25 November. The Serie C from 16 July to 19 November.
