FUTEBOL THE BRAZILIAN WAY OF LIFE                               www.ofutebol.com

Hi futebolista,

They had one of their worst ever starts to a season and a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Sao Paulo, culminated in the humiliating dismissal of Argentine coach Daniel Passarella.

But this week Corinthians and their multimillion dollar team showed all their rivals that they are back in business. Carlos Tevez scored twice as they beat Coritiba 3-0, to reach the top of the Brazilian Championship for the first time this year.

With the season almost at the halfway point, Libertadores champions Sao Paulo will face Goias on Sunday, hoping to get their stuttering league campaign back on track. After surrendering a three-goal lead to draw with state rivals Palmeiras on Thursday, the Sao Paulo fans will be hoping Rogerio Ceni and Amoroso can inspire them to end a six-game winless run.

In another crucial Round 18 fixture, surprise package Parana take on defending champions Santos. It's third against fourth and will see the Brasileiro’s eleven-goal top scorer Borges, go head-to-head against Robinho, who’s determined to make a positive impression before he joins Real Madrid later this month.

These are the current standings;

1 - Corinthians 34
2 - Ponte Preta 33
3 - Parana - 31
4 - Santos 30
5 - Cruzeiro 30
6 - Internacional 29

This last seven days has seen Real Madrid sign not one but two Brazilian gems. Both Julio Baptista and Robinho will line up for the Madrid giants next season – what a stunning attack they are going to have.

And another one of Real's stars has been in the news this week. Carlos Alberto Parreira has recalled Ronaldo to the national team squad, for the forthcoming friendly against Croatia. The Brazil coach also reserved special praise for the most talked about youngster in Brazilian football – Kerlon.

Have a great weekend, amigos
